A well-known Chinese teacher, editor, politician, and philosopher Confucius once said, “Choose a Job You Love and You Will Never Have to Work a Day in Your Life.”
Before we come upon the kind of job you should do let us first know the factors of happiness at work i.e. what keeps you happy while you are working. When this question was asked to various people in many organizations, it was concluded that there is no one common factor that would make individuals happy while they are working.
The factors that came out of discussion were: power, position, package, punctuality, flexible working hours, incentives & bonuses, and so on… You may get what all you desire from your job or you may not but there is one way to get everything out of your job and ultimately enjoy doing it. It is to make your passion your career.
Each of us has a passion for something from our childhood or we develop it in young age. Some of us may be passionate artists, others may be zealous sportspersons, some others may be in love with technology and whereas many would have a passion for a thing unknown to us. This is only the passion towards these tasks that inspires us to work happily and keep us motivated even in tough times.
Below are steps that could help you in making your passion your career that you will enjoy pursuing forever:
1.Ascertain Your Passion:
Your passion must be the work you relish and for which you are certainly reinforced to outdo. Draw the demarcation line between a hobby and a passion. It is important to distinguish between the two before resigning your existing job. For example, simply because you love gardening does not essentially mean you should make it your career option. You may have knowledge about the specific range of flowers or vegetables but it does not constitute the entire gardening. Dig out all of the probable career options out of your passion with an open mind.
2. Scan the Market for Competitors and Demand:
In the second step, start with scanning the market and demand for your passion when turned into a career. Who are going to be your prime customers, dealers, competitors, stakeholders and how are you going to earn out of it? It is uncertain to dive into a career with a low demand or the one with many competitors albeit you enjoy doing it. Though, the existing competitors should not be the obstacle. If you are self-reliant in your abilities, it is very likely to launch yourself and thrive pretty contentedly, given that you have a robust publicizing approach.
3. Research and Re-research:
Organize a comprehensive study to understand what all would be required to liftoff your passion into a career. You may require procuring particular device or equipment, or clear a certification course, grade, or distinct training sessions. You may also hire workforces or look for funding. Plan well and execute accordingly before venturing into the market. Have a conversation with people around you with the same interest area as yours. Share your planning and get their inputs over your planning and preparations. Do not hesitate to discuss as it is going to help you a lot in understanding the ins and outs of the market.
4. Formulate a Blueprint:
Formulate a thorough blueprint of the stages you want to take to convert your passion into a lifelike career prospect. Take in what you would be required to do and how much time and energy you must spend before kick starting your new endeavor. It is highly recommended to put in all your efforts for the purpose but be ready with Plan B as well just in case Plan A doesn’t work as expected. Always have a contingency backup in terms of monetary policies to help you out in a difficult time.
5. Turn yourself into a Competent Entrepreneur:
Working on your passion for satisfying your soul was little informal but now when you have decided to earn from it, so you have to turn yourself into a professional. Having a distinctive expertise may not be sufficient to reckon you as an expert, therefore get the training needed to become saleable. Take out time from your daily schedule at nights or on weekends while you’re still in your present job. A time off to join a concentrated training or practicum or even taking online classes would be a great idea. Remember, your passion has made you happy till now, but now you have planned to earn through it.
6. Stay Adaptable:
Tighten your seat belts and get ready for a roller-coaster ride. You are going to face many ups and downs in your way but be adaptable to all the hurdles. Cross them successfully and enthusiastically. People will advise you and criticize you. Accept them and move on. There might be chances when other people’s visions may give you an idea that you haven’t thought of. Hence, it is advised to surround yourself with endowed persons or to make an advisory committee to assist you to make the right choices.
Selecting the right career by turning your passion into a career calls for enthusiasm and lot of courage. You must take initiatives and leap a step daily that gets you closer your aim. Your dedication and hard work will ultimately repay you and gradually you will be well on your way doing what you enjoy.
